The Base Project is an interdisciplinary effort to reveal the global network of military bases that the United States has maintained since the 1940s. Until now, scholars have mostly studied military bases either as individual outposts or highlighted their global reach through static maps and snapshots. The Base Project will use stories, maps, and data visualization in order to show the historic role of U.S. militarism globally and to illuminate the ways that this base network continues to shape the 21st century world.
